Thanksgiving

leave a comment

We made Thanksgiving dinner at home this year. We cooked a relatively small bird and it turned out pretty well. I think with having a smaller bird, we were able to cook it faster and it stayed pretty moist and tender.

My Mom came up for a visit for the weekend. We ended up getting our Christmas tree too and decorating it and doing some stockings since we are not going to see Mom on Christmas this year.

Halloween

Here are a few pictures from Halloween. We have a pumpkin patch by our house that we have been going to for the last few years. They have hay rides and stuff for the kids to play with. We went trick or treating twice this year. The first trip was to Fisherman’s Wharf the Saturday before Halloween. They held a big Halloween party for the kids and the merchants were handing out candy. We went to the Mission to trick or treat on Halloween. Elise was more than happy to get as much use out of her princess dress as she could.

Provoked

leave a comment

Jenny and I went to see Henry Rollins last night. He is finishing up his “Provoked” tour. The show was at Herbst Theater down at the Civic Center. It was the first time Jenny and I had seen anything there. It is an impressive venue. Rollins made a a few comments about the venue at the start of the show, mentioning that San Francisco tends to value their old venues more than a lot of other cities, much to the audience’s agreement.

I have been following Henry Rollins spoken word stuff for 17 years or so now. It has been interesting to watch his style evolve. He used to focus on pretty personal stuff reading journal entries and prose he wrote on tour. Now he focuses on pretty “big picture” stuff now with a lot of cultural and political critiques and has become pretty skilled at weaving multiple stories together to make a broader point in an interesting and funny way.
