Van Huisen Boys

A week after flying to Oregon to pick up the van I met up with my brother and Coastside Armada in Bakersfield. It seems like every time I take off on the Harley the weather gods are always on my side. Once outside of LA a wave of relief washes over me and I don’t feel so trapped.

That evening the club rode out to a BBQ hosted by the Central Cal chapter of Coastside Armada. Fresh out of the basic riders safety course for my motorcycle license I was confused by how the club maneuvered the streets.

Saturday was a nice ride out Kernville – Gods county. We hit up the Whiskey Flat Days.

After a detour through some windy dirt roads and a 4,500 ft elevation we narrowly escaped Kernville unscathed. I noticed that my speedometer was approaching 90mph through the back hills. Luckily I was following my brother because it takes a lot for me to realize that the envelope is being pushed. Three back from the leader I noticed coming out of a turn I was now 2 back and dust bomb appeared in my peripheral. The rider went down, bike totaled, but more or less unscathed. These guys from Cen Cal know how to party!

One last dinner with the group and it was goodbye. I left Bakersfield the next morning.
